They've made a mistake on the product review. The noval isn't about Benjamin Gates or the Templar Treasure, its about Ben Gates' ancestors and how the Gates family migrated to America.

But before he can find out much more, the man suddenly and suspiously dies but not before passing the clues of the treasure to Samual. Now armed with a letter and only a few cryptic messages to go on, samual finds himself caught up in a hunt that goes back to the very begining of the New World, and traces back to a vanished colony.

Having seen the movies I was skeptical about a prequel. However, from the introduction to the satisfying ending I enjoyed meeting the characters, reading the reasonably fictionalized historical character's activities and exchanges with the Gates boys, and following the clues to the resolution. This is family entertainment at its best and I look forward to the next installment. Hurry!

Exciting book for an 11 year old boy

My son blew through this book in two days and wants more of the series! As the other reviewers said, the Amazon.com summary is incorrect.

I also just read the book, and while it's not terribly complex, it's interesting and exciting enough to propel a youngster who, just two years ago, wouldn't pick up a fiction book unless he was under duress. Just don't expect "Pillars of the Earth" or "Gone with the Wind" - after all, it's a kid's historical novel!

I agree that Dan Brown writes in a way that has detail, and helps me to get completely lost in his story. I get very vivid mental pictures of how the story looks and what is happening. I appreciate all of the research that goes into these books, and that they are based on real things, places, people that have happened. I have read almost all of the books he has written and have been very pleased with all. I look forward to getting this book and I can hardly wait to enjoy this book as well.

Another book worth buying!

This book is several things at once: a story of growing up, of betrayal and loss, of innocence abused; and a strong indictment of a corrupt system. Any outsider can easily find himself trapped by an old-boy/old-girl network of self-serving cops, prosecutors and judges like that operating in Perugia. It's a system you can't beat. To make things worse, the prosecutor in the Knox-Sollecito case has a history of persecuting innocents but Italy does not seem to care. On reading about some particularly disgusting details of the Perugian authorities' misconduct, I doubt whether a new trial of Knox and Sollecito in Italy can possibly be fair.

This book is also a dire warning to young, idealistic Americans. Do not talk to strangers, kids are told; likewise, do not talk to cops if there is a slightest chance that you may be a suspect. Demand a lawyer at once, and shut up. Do not try to please people; they will think you're crazy or evil, and victimize you.
This book should become required reading in Italy, whose citizens have been deceived by the unscrupulous press. The book would make them see Amanda Knox's innocence - her essential innocence and goodness that were brutally abused in a modern witch hunt.
